About

Welcome to the Kentville Marlins!

The Kentville Marlins Swim Team has been around for over 50 years. We are one of the only yards pools in the province and the only yard pool that hosts an annual swim meet. We are a non-profit organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors and members. All swimmer families are members of the Marlins, and your voice, ideas and opinions are very important; we encourage all parents to be involved.

The Kentville Marlins is a competitive summer swim team. We have practices five days a week throughout our 8-week program. Swimmers have the opportunity to compete at swim meets every weekend across the province. This is a great way to showcase the skills the swimmers learn throughout each week from our dedicated group of coaches!

Whether swimmers decide to compete or just wish to focus on building skills the goal of being on the Marlins is for swimmers to have fun and enjoy the sport. While winning ribbons or medals is rewarding, the most important aspect for swimmers is learning to swim with proper technique and challenging themselves to be better swimmers - and having fun while doing so. Coaches emphasize technique and stroke improvement to help each swimmer reach their goals. Learning new skills and meeting new challenges should be fun and no swimmer should feel pressured.

While improving swimmer’s abilities in all four competitive strokes, we also aim to teach a high standard of teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship in and out of the pool. We encourage these aspects in our swimmers by involving them in full team activities, cheering each other on at meets, and being respectful of fellow competitors, officials, and parents.

The goal each summer for the Kentville Marlins, as an organization, is to recruit new swimmers, retain our returning swimmers and for each swimmer to achieve their personal goals. For some, that may mean medaling at Provincials. For others, it may mean achieving their personal best times, e.g., improving a stroke, managing a turn, or performing a dive. Athletes need a lot of encouragement and support from their family, friends, and coaches, so please do not be shy about cheering on every Marlin.
